Beehive Montessori & Kalatmika Story Space

Curriculum & Program Details

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go

Kalatmika story space ‘s main aim is to have children listen to wonderful stories, read books, and embrace the joy of reading with language enhancement being the by product.

Kathalaya story lab, the brainchild of master storyteller Geetha Ramanujam, will be one of the methods used to achieve this goal.

This STORYLAB is a fun-filled valuable learning program using storytelling as its methodology. It has a compendium of stories that comprises of an extensively worked curriculum, pedagogically appropriate, along with the story chest of props for the same. Kathalaya ‘s curriculum has been exclusively developed to suit the pedagogical levels of children between the ages of Level 1 – 2.5 to 7years, Level 2- 8 to 15 years.

At Kalatmika we believe in giving children a space to imagine and innovate their own pattern of thinking, which inspires and triggers a sense of wonder in the young learner’s mind. Children understand concepts easier and better through the methodology of storytelling.

Books from Karadi Tales, Tulika publications, Pratham books will also be read. Activities in the form of songs, retelling of stories using elements of theatre, art and craft along with worksheets will be given to the children.

Kalatmika will also have a space where children can just sit and read books. We also plan to have a small library that lends books.

How this space differs from others

We have the unique combination of elementary Montessori and a story space to provide an immersive learning experience. Montessori materials and techniques will be used to explain abstract concepts while language enhancement will happen in our story space. The child at this age, not only looks for physical independence but also demands intellectual and emotional independence.

Our aim is to facilitate children to become independent learners to be able to discern and choose relevant information, to explore given content, to make connections and understand the interconnected nature of what they are studying. Reading improves concentration and memory especially visual memory of spellings and promotes the expansion of vocabulary. Writing abilities are strengthened with the imagination and creativity soaring. The story space is all about encouraging children to reap all these benefits of reading in a joyful manner.
